Your Child's Learning

Opportunities to engage in your child's learning

Phonics

Phonics is the method we use to help children learn to read by teaching them the sounds that letters and groups of letters make, and how to blend these sounds together to read words. It is a systematic and synthetic approach that supports children in developing strong decoding skills so they can become confident, fluent readers.

At our school, we follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, a DfE‑validated phonics programme that teaches children the alphabetic code in a clear, carefully sequenced way. This ensures they learn new sounds in the right order and at the right pace, building on their knowledge as they move through school.

Using Little Wandle, children take part in daily phonics lessons and regular reading practice sessions. The programme is designed to help every child become a fluent, confident reader by providing consistent teaching, fully decodable books that match their phonics stage, and support for those who may need additional practice.

Through Little Wandle, we ensure all pupils develop the skills they need to read for both pleasure and purpose as they progress through their early education

The section PHONICS on the right contains a number of resources outlining what we work towards, how we work towards it, and resources for helping your child with their phonics.

Curriculum Newsletters

Each term you will receive a curriculum newsletter from your child's class teacher. This will give you the detail of the themes and topics your child will be learning. You can see the school curriculum on Key Information Pages.

If you would like more information, please speak to your child's class teacher.

Family Maths with National Numeracy

We are delighted that our school has been selected to work with the independent charity National Numeracy on a project that encourages children and families to enjoy maths together.

As part of this project, we have introduced Family Maths Scrapbooks and activities. These activities help children and their families explore everyday maths at home, linking the maths children learn in school with real life.

The activities are simple and fun, and families do not need any special knowledge or equipment to take part. Talking about everyday maths – such as counting, measuring, or solving simple problems together – helps build children’s confidence and enjoyment of maths.

Children can record their ideas and discoveries in their Family Maths Scrapbooks in creative ways, such as drawing pictures, writing calculations, creating diagrams, or adding photos.

We look forward to seeing how our children explore maths beyond the classroom with their families

Welcome Wednesday

Every week parents are invited in for ‘Welcome Wednesday’ in nursery.  This is an opportunity to share a book or other learning with your child.  It's a great opportunity to see your child in the school environment and share in their learning.
