Geography

At Sexton’s Manor Primary School, we believe geography helps children to better understand the world around them and their place within it. Through our geography curriculum, pupils develop curiosity, respect and responsibility for people, places and the environment, both locally and globally.

We teach geography using the Kapow Primary Geography Scheme of Work, which provides a clear, progressive and engaging curriculum that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum. The scheme ensures that children build secure knowledge and skills over time, revisiting and deepening their understanding as they move through the school.

Our geography curriculum is taught through carefully sequenced units that develop pupils’ locational knowledge, place knowledge, human and physical geography, and geographical skills and fieldwork. Lessons encourage enquiry, discussion and critical thinking, allowing children to ask questions, investigate patterns and make connections between places and environments.

Geography learning is enriched through the use of maps, atlases, digital resources, data interpretation and fieldwork opportunities wherever possible. Pupils are taught to use geographical vocabulary accurately and confidently, helping them to communicate their understanding clearly.

By the time children leave Sexton’s Manor Primary School, they will have developed a strong foundation of geographical knowledge, an appreciation of diversity, and the skills needed to understand the challenges and opportunities facing our world, now and in the future.
