Early Help Offer
Early Help Offer for Children and Families at Sexton's Manor Primary School
Providing early help to our children and families at Sexton’s Manor Primary School means we are more effective in promoting support as soon as we can. Early help means providing support as soon as a problem emerges, at any point in a child’s life, from the foundation years through to the teenage years.
At Sexton’s Manor we understand how complicated family life can be at times and there may be situations where you or your child need extra help and support. If there are any problems at home, please come and talk to the class teacher in the first instance. We have an offer of early help and there may be ways in which we can help.
Each term the class teacher meets with the headteacher and key stage leader and discusses the progress of each pupil in detail. On a daily basis, the children are monitored by the class teacher and support staff.
At these meetings a child’s progress, attitudes to learning, behaviour, attendance, additional needs, any support they receive, friendships, etc may be discussed. This allows us to identify children and families that would benefit from early help and allows us to access services in the school and beyond.
A Few Examples of Early Help:
Parent or child discussions with an adult in school one to one.
Interventions for short periods e.g. six weeks - individual or group lego therapy, music therapy, gym trail, social skills, nurture, reading, writing, maths etc.
Counselling for a child with our trained members of staff.
Monitoring and meetings with a member of the Senior Management Team e.g. Attendance, behaviour, attitudes to learning etc.
Referrals to other agencies who work in school e.g. the School Nurse, CISS for behaviour issues.
Referral to support accessed via Social Services for some children or families.
Safeguarding referrals. We have Mrs Knight, the headteacher as the Designated Safeguarding Lead and a deputy, Mr Roberts. This ensures that a designated person is always available on site throughout the school day.
There are also two governors with responsibility for Safeguarding. Mrs V Axton and Mrs G Brockwell.
External agency support.
Sexton’s Manor staff will endeavour to engage with families/carers and offer the appropriate support and care to achieve positive outcomes for a child. However, the school must follow its robust safeguarding policy. If concerns are raised where the safety of a child is put at risk further referrals will be made to the appropriate professionals prior to parents /carers being made aware.
Every child and situation is unique and appropriate help will be offered at an early stage. Please contact the class teacher, if you have any concerns.
